MANILA, Philippines — University of the Philippines guard Reyland Torres is moving on from the issue involving La Salle coach Topex Robinson, saying he and the team are focusing on their title quest in the Season 87 men’s basketball tournament. ADVERTISEMENT

“It’s okay with me. I think they really thought it through, and they were fair. From their perspective, it’s definitely harder to make decisions. Whatever their decision was, I’m thankful. I’ll just leave it up to God,” Torres told reporters after UP’s 83-73 win over the University of Santo Tomas on Sunday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The league sent Torres a “stern warning” for passing in very close proximity to Coach Robinson twice during a heated exchange in the third quarter of their first-round loss last week, while the latter was warned for responding with “language unbecoming of a coach.”FEATURED STORIES SPORTS PBA Finals: TNT carries extra weapons into duel vs Ginebra SPORTS 2024 PBA Finals schedule: Barangay Ginebra vs TNT Tropang Giga SPORTS Tim Cone, Ginebra locked in on getting back at TNT for PBA title

MANILA, Philippines —Putting a premium on consistency, Mo Konateh is determined to deliver more wins for Far Eastern University in the second round of the UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball tournament.

Konateh hauled a season-high 26 rebounds and dropped 13 points and four blocks as FEU escaped Adamson in overtime, 76-72, on Saturday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The Gambian center’s personal-high on rebounds was just a board shy of tying league record holders Justine Baltazar of La Salle and Ateneo’s former MVP Ange Kouame, who both tallied 27 rebounds in a game in 2017 and 2018, respectively.

MANILA, Philippines —La Salle star Mike Phillips was on the receiving end of a poster dunk by UE Red Warriors’ Precious Momowei in the second quarter of their rematch in the UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball tournament.

Instead of hanging his head over being posterized in what could be the dunk of the season, Phillips stayed on the course, resulting in his best game yet to get back at their first-round tormentor.

“Momowei every time I go against him, he’s such an energy guy and I can say, he’s the heart and soul of UE,” said the fourth-year La Salle big man. “Of course, when he made that play, I really felt the UE crowd. But I kept on thinking in those moment what our coaches, especially  Coach Gian [Nazario] and coach Topex [Robinson], taught us: ‘don’t retaliate. Don’t stray from the system just because you want to get back at him.'”
