Standing for representation and community empowerment, young Filipino American Democrat Angelito Tenorio is set to win a seat in Wisconsin’s State Assembly, defeating two rivals in the recently concluded elections. 

Tenorio will make history as Wisconsin’s first Filipino American state representative.  

The 28-year-old Fil-Am garnered 15, 637 votes or 52.7 percent of the vote.

Tenorio brings a passionate voice to Wisconsin’s legislature, advocating for community-driven policies and a brighter future for Wisconsin residents.

Tenorio expressed his gratitude in a heartfelt message on his campaign website: “I’m deeply grateful and honored to have earned the trust of District 14.”

Angelito Tenorio’s journey 

Tenorio was born and raised in West Allis, Wisconsin. His Filipino immigrant parents, both union workers, instilled in him a deep commitment to hard work and community service.

Starting early in the political scene, he had served as an Alderman on the West Allis Common Council — becoming the youngest and first person of color to take the position.

The experience gave him an invaluable perspective on his hometown’s needs.

“I entered this race because I’m passionate about building a brighter future for everyone in our community,” Tenorio shared in his Facebook post.

His nonprofit development and political finance background helped him in his campaign that was centered on community change. He earned notable endorsements from Wisconsin State Representatives Alex Joers, Francesca Hong and Lisa Subeck.

His campaign centered around issues that resonate with his constituents: affordable housing, good-paying union jobs, racial equity, civil rights, LGBTQIA+ rights and social justice.

On Election Day, Tenorio took to Facebook to share a photo with his mother Belinda, who proudly voted with him.

Reflecting on his journey, he wrote, “It felt surreal and inspiring to see my name on the ballot alongside leaders like Kamala Harris and Tammy Baldwin.”

As he officially begins his tenure on Jan.6, 2025, Angelito Tenorio vows to “get to work” for his community, representing a new chapter for his district and delivering a powerful message of inclusion.
